Teachers Union Demands End to War but Lobbies for Its Continued Funding

Money will make a whore out of just about anyone, apparently even unionized teachers. The American Federation of Teachers recently passed a resolution at its annual convention, which demands an immediate cessation of American activities in Afghanistan. From the Democratic Socialists of America site:

Delegates adopted a resolution that puts the giant teacher union on new ground in opposition to the war and occupation of Afghanistan, opposing any further escalation and calling for “rapid, orderly withdrawal of all armed forces and military contractors, to begin immediately.”

But what’s funny – not to mention hypocritical – is that the teachers union is also pushing the $80 billion war spending bill because it contains pork for public schools. The bill is now in the Senate where it faces likely changes or defeat altogether. So on the one hand, the union opposes the war, but will push to continue funding it if it contains funds for its members. [more...]

Gaslighting America

Barack Obama and his cronies are using the same crazy-making tactics depicted in the movie, Gaslight and later, George Orwell’s 1984.  In the old move, Gaslight, a woman is driven mad by her husband.  He convinces her that she is imagining things.  Over time, the victim begins to doubt her own perceptions of reality, accepting that her husband must be right.  Experts who work with emotional abuse victims recognize gaslighting – oppressors manipulate their victims into doubting their own perceptions of reality.

Obama proxies in the administration, Janet Napolitano and Eric Holder, would have us believe that we are engaged in “overseas contingency operations” to deal with “man-caused disasters.”  Napolitano actually contends, straight-faced, that our border with Mexico is secure, despite a surfeit of evidence to show that our Mexican border is an anarchical combat zone. Sarah Palin-Bashing Tune Gets Emmy Nomination

Continuing a politically charged pattern, the Television Academy is bypassing myriad TV tunes to award an Emmy nomination on what appears to be an ideological basis. The nomination is within the category of Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and is being given to a “Family Guy” tune that takes aim at Sarah Palin. The song is called “Down Syndrome Girl,” and it comes from an episode in which a character with Down syndrome identifies her mom as “the former governor of Alaska,” an obvious reference to Palin who herself is the mother of a child with Down syndrome. Palin and others have responded to the show. Unfortunately, their feedback has failed to stop the TV Academy from elevating the lyrics, which, among other things, refer to the “Down Syndrome Girl” as a “little whore.” [more...]
